“Vietnam is crazy about coffee.” – That is what my friend told me when he first visited Vietnam on June 2019. Walking down any street in Vietnam, you will see people sipping coffee on the sidewalk or in a cafe shop.

    Vietnam is Crazy about coffee
After years, the Vietnamese people are after something more than just caffeine fix, so they have created different flavourful variations of coffee. For instance, “cà phê trứng” or egg coffee, a Hanoi speciality, has been all the rage in the past few years. “Cà phê trứng” has a creamy soft, meringue-like egg white foam perched on dense coffee, which makes for its unique flavour and smell. This signature beverage was among the food and drinks items being served to 3,500 local and international journalists covering the second Trump – Kim summit in February this year. In Nghe An, “cà phê bọt” or foamed coffee is widely loved by both the young and old people thanks to its perfectly- whipped soft foam on top of the coffee The locals usually spend the weekends coming to Vinh Market and treat themselves to a cup of flavourful foamed coffee.

In the past, the French introduced coffee to Vietnam, mainly as a way to support their own colonial expat populations. As Vietnam became influenced by other economic forces, coffee started to make its way into the cities. Nowadays, coffee culture is an indispensable part of the Vietnamese lives.
